DEADLINE TO FILE DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE APPROACHING

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - West Virginians in Jackson and Lincoln Counties have just over a week before the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

In July, WorkForce West Virginia announced that West Virginians living in Jackson and Lincoln counties who are unemployed due to the recent severe storms, flooding, mudslides and landslides may be eligible for disaster unemployment.

West Virginians who live or work in Jackson and Lincoln Counties have until August 4, 2016 to file a claim for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is intended for those who are not eligible for benefits under a state's regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers, the self-employed and others who are ineligible to receive regular unemployment insurance benefits may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment benefits.

For questions regarding filing for DUA benefits, you must contact your local office. To find the local office nearest you, please visit https://uc.workforcewv.org/Contact.aspx. For general questions regarding DUA benefits, contact 304-558-3309.
