About the Monetary and Potential Charges Exchange

The Monetary and Potential Charging (MPC) exchange advises employers and Third-Party
Administrators (TPAs) of the wages they have paid to claimants that are used in the
calculating potential benefits payable to the claimant. It also informs the employers of the
potential charges that will be applied to their state unemployment taxes if benefits are
awarded and they are found liable.

Purpose of the Monetary and Potential Charges Exchange

The SIDES (State Information Data Exchange System) MPC exchange electronically notifies
employers of wages used to set up a claim. It allows employers, TPAs and Professional
Employer Organizations (PEOs) to respond with corrected wages paid, ensuring that the
proper amount of unemployment insurance (UI) benefits is paid.
Using SIDES, UI agencies display potential charges to employer tax accounts based on
individual claims. By responding electronically, employers, TPAs, and PEOs can provide
additional separation information faster, allowing improper payments to be stopped faster.
